"Ara vos prec per aquella valor
que vos guida al som de l'esalina,
sovenha vos a temps de ma dolor.
Poi s'ascose nel foco che li affina." T [Eliot's note] The purgatorial vision of refining fire - as distinct from the fires of lust - represents one of the hopeful fragments shored up by the seeker for regeneration and order. (NA) Eliot used the first three words (Ara Vos Prec) as a title for the English version of the American Poems 1920.
